The gorgeous scenery around Truckee is for more than viewing. Outdoors sports of almost any kind are enjoyed by residents and visitors alike. Whether you are fishing, paddle boarding, boating or simply enjoying the lake, beautiful Donner Lake has much to offer. The Truckee River is a favorite of fishermen, too. There are fifteen golf courses and a number of excellent skiing resorts. During the winter, sports include sledding, ice skating and even sled dog tours. Favorite summer sports include biking, hiking, camping, fishing and riding.

The population of Truckee is approximately 16,000 people and the number of schools is proportional, with less than 4,000 students. With two high schools, one middle school, and four elementary schools, all public, school scores still remain high.
