Tucked into a quiet corner of a shopping mall at the corner of Hopyard and Valley, Pleasanton’s first Japanese restaurant has satisfied sushi lovers since 1983. Inside the cozy setting, reminiscent of a Japanese home with opaque screens and art prints, regulars vie for seats to watch the sushi chek prepare specialties like shiro maguro (white tuna). For near-sushi diners, the Fireball Roll features lightly cooked spicy tuna with chili sauce. You won’t find a long list of trendy sushi combinations, just top-quality renditions of classic rolls, sashimi, tempura, and teriyaki.
