Charlotte Bell of South Bay Doggie has watched over my precious pup for day care and overnight care for 7 years, and I could not be happier with her service. My dog ~LOVES~ Charlotte. At the sheer mention of her name, BB perks up and runs around the house to find her. There is no greater feeling than knowing your dog is getting the attention that he needs while I work a long day.
I have never met someone like Charlotte who has such compassion for animals. It is easy to see that each dog in her care knows they are protected and loved. Charlotte makes sure that my dog (as well as her other clients) has the right balance of exercise and relaxation. It is a beautiful thing to see a pack of dogs so comfortable with each other as they run, play, sleep and occasionally bark. South Bay Doggie is home away from home for my pet.
I have also utilized Charlotte's obedience training/coaching. She is so patient. My dog was putty in her hands in just one session. Her advice has proven invaluable.
It would be my honor to discuss my experience with anyone else who is considering South Bay Doggie for day care or boarding. I think the world of Charlotte and her organization. Please feel free to contact me . Charlotte has my number.
I cannot than you enough for all of the love and effort you put forth in caring for Biscuit. You have a true gift and you have used it to create an environment that Biscuit not only loves but that we feel perfectly comfortable sending him to.
The time that you have put into hiring staff that also share your compassion really shows because everyone is wonderful.
I so appreciate the advice you have provided when I have had concerns. You and the place you have created have allowed us to have a dog that loves his life and that we love as a part of our family.
With my health challenges and hospitalizations this year, I cannot imagine not having South Bay Doggie Daycare. I knew that on top of everything else I had to worry about, I didn't have to worry about Biscuit and that was invaluable.
As South Bay Doggie Day Care?s 10 year anniversary is approaching, and as one of her first customers, I would like to take the opportunity to thank Charlotte for the love, caring and support she has given me and my doggies over the years. I still have the wonderful article that the Daily Breeze published in September of 1998.
She has helped train me (very important) and my various rescued dogs. Most of them have had issues that she has addressed professionally and kindly. They love Charlotte and SBDDC and I have peace of mind whenever I leave them inher hands.
I moved out of the area and tried a couple of different house sitters, but they never worked out and I always worried about my doggies? well being. Now, I make arrangements with Charlotte, who is always accommodating and I can travel worry-free. I highly recommend Charlotte and her staff at South Bay Doggie Day Care!
Our dog, Zeus has been going to South Bay Doggie for 9 years straight. Charlotte has been a reliable and loving caretaker for our dog. She often lets us know if she notices any changes in his behavior, and truly cares about his well being and happiness. South Bay Doggie has been something we have counted on to keep our dog active and happy and would recommend it highly.
South Bay Doggie is wonderful! My dogs and I have been customers for eight years. I always know that my dogs are safe, happy and getting care second only to at home. The small, home-like atmosphere is comforting to my dogs, and the peaceful environment is nurturing. Charlotte Bell has gone out of her way numerous times to accommodate my schedule and special requests. Customer service and loving expert care is South Bay Doggie?s strong suit, and you can trust them with your best friend any time.
An overnight stay is safe, happy, and worry-free. My finicky eater is coaxed lovingly to eat, and my playful dog is given lots of opportunity to exercise. Both dogs thrive in the highly social atmosphere in which the people are always part of the mix, not separate from the dogs - especially important to me, since my dogs love people and want to be with them. Both return home content and even freshly bathed if I requested. No worries and no hassle ? just what is needed when travel calls me away from home.
South Bay Doggie is a gift to Manhattan Beach and to my family. Charlotte, who owns and runs the pack, is there overseeing the dogs nearly every day of the year (yes, holidays too), and is obviously devoted to the dogs there as well as to those outside her care. You can see this by watching her interact with her ?pack?. She also assists in the training and placement of rescued dogs, and works to integrate all kinds of special -needs dogs into her cage free, loving, and carefully managed facility.
For some dogs, just getting along with others is difficult. With my dog, Panda, Charlotte had just the right level of patience, and gradually changed a dog who was aggressive towards almost every dog she met, into one who could relax peacefully amongst all the dogs in Charlotte's pack. She invited me to join her Saturday FREE dog socialization class and taught us together (my dog AND me) that we could (amazingly) walk right by, sit and lie down near other dogs without Panda lunging, snapping, or barking. I learned that it always had to do with how I was with her and what I was doing when we were together.
I?m so grateful because now our dog can, for the first time ever, be dropped off anytime and vacations can actually be planned!
Charlotte Bell is one of the most compassionate trainers we have ever worked with... and she doesn't give up! Lhasa Apso are a very dominant breed and very intelligent, sometimes too smart for their own good! Charlotte has successfully rehabilitated two dogs for Lhasa Happy Homes that another trainer recommended to be euthanized! These two wonderful dogs are now happily living a wonderful life in a home where they are truly loved! Charlotte not only works with the dogs....she works closely with the new guardians to set everyone up for success. Lhasa Happy Homes is truly grateful for her tenacity and skill...but most of all her love for the animals.
I met Charlotte in 2003 when I needed help with Reno, my big, exuberant, untrained Lab/Golden mix. Within minutes she'd shown me how to permanently cure him of pawing at me for attention. Since our second session I've been able to walk him on leash - this with a dog who had languished in Rescue for months because he was too wildly uncontrolled to be shown at adoption events!
Charlotte is a truly gifted teacher, not just of dogs (although she's terrific with them), but much more important, of people. She is an excellent listener who focuses on you - on what you want (and what you don't care about); what you're willing and able to do (and what you find distasteful). Unlike many trainers she is flexible and accommodating, willing to work with the reality of your agenda without trying to impose her own opinion of what you (or your dog) "ought" to feel or do.
Since meeting her, our shared interest in Dog Rescue has given me occasion to see her deal with dozens of dogs of various breeds, sizes and dispositions, and have never known her to be other than calm and kind. She is always willing to explain (patiently!) what she's doing and why, and has been an invaluable source of suggestions, encouragement and practical advice. I have recommended her repeatedly to both new owners and those struggling with long-term problem behaviors.
Noah's Bark loves working with Charlotte Bell of South Bay Doggie / Dog People. She has repeatedly proven to be an invaluable resource to our rescue work. The dogs we deal with are often traumatized by life on the street or time spent in a shelter and require a special kind of intuition on the part of a handler. Charlotte seems to be able to resonate with these dogs, using her insight and expertise to help rehabilitate them into happy, adoptable companions.
We can't imagine raising our lab, Aspen, without Charlotte. When Aspen was just 6 months old, Charlotte taught us how to establish and maintain the correct tone and behaviors in Aspen's training. Charlotte's convenient weekly free training sessions provide both regular training reinforcement, as well as, dog socialization. Now at two years old, Aspen has long since mastered all her basic commands, but still looks forward to her occasional overnight visits at doggie day care where she gets a chance to spend time once again with her "Aunt Charlotte".
Sent my black lab pup there for boot camp and has made a wonderful difference. Charlotte truly knows what she is doing and is sincere about helping dogs by making sure they are trained properly. She's given me a lot of excellent free advice and refresher courses. My dog has maintained her obedience with me and my friends but is the best with Charlotte handling her. At the same time, my dog loves Charlotte and gets excited to see her. The facility is a little small but I really trust that my dog is in good hands.
I first found Charlotte 5 years ago after I had rescued a very dominant dog-aggressive German Shepherd. I had previously tried more than 6 trainers with this dog, all with no success. Nothing they did made a dent in this dog's behavior. This dog bullied me when she could and constantly wanted to attack other dogs. I was at my wits end. Then I put this dog in Charlotte's boot camp for training. After a few weeks, I visited and was shocked to witness this German Shepherd milling around peacefully with other dogs. And Charlotte taught me how to be the alpha leader making this dog submissive to my commands. The work was complete enough so that this dog could finally get adopted.
A few years later, I came to Charlotte with another rescued dog. He had been attacked recently by other dogs and was now dog aggressive himself. Taking him to a vet waiting room with other dogs was a nightmare. He would work himself into a hysteria and wail and pull at the leash to fight with another dog. Through Charlotte's free weekly classes, I learned how to successfully handle him on the leash in close proximity to other dogs without allowing him to react. The real test was when we were at a crowded veterinary office, and he started fixating on a nearby large dog. At once, I gave him several corrections which I had learned in class . . .and then he gave up, lay down on the floor, and took a nap! Finally, a peaceful trip to the vet!
Charlotte's training is a Godsend for anyone who is struggling with any kind of aggression or dominant behavior in their dog. The confidence you'll attain when you master handling your dog in various situations is amazing. And you'll find yourself falling in love with your dog.
I was referred to Charlotte by a stranger at the dog park who had a beautifully behaved dog. It was so well behaved that it completely ignored my 6 month old, chocolate lab puppy that was lunging and jumping at him, as well as, incessantly licking him in the face...what bad manners! We needed help.
From our very first meeting it was clear that Charlotte was going to play a purposeful role in the life I would have with this energetic young pup. Charlotte has a very calm and gentle manner to her that is perfect for high energy breeds. In a very short time my dog Pippa was responding to the training and commands that Charlotte had taught us and seemed more willing to listen and take direction. I now truly enjoy taking Pippa for long walks where she keeps just a step behind me and no longer pulls ahead or lunges at other dogs. Charlotte has also kept Pippa for several days for extended training and has followed up with a visit to my residence to assure that everything she has learned in the training environment transfers to the familiar surroundings of our home.
Now that Pippa is a year old she is much closer to being the well behaved dog we originally met at the dog park. I am so pleased with her progress that I have recommended Charlotte to a number of my coworkers which have also enlisted her help with their pets. My coworkers and I unanimously agree that Charlotte's training in conjunction with her free Saturday classes are the best way to continue to hone the skills required to raise well behaved, happy and balanced dogs.
Thank goodness I found Charlotte! I was at my wits end with Austin, my Jack Russell Terrier. He had so many social and behavior problems - too many to name. But you name it, he pretty much had an issue with it, especially with the combination of being a male JRT. I didn't' t think there was any hope. So many dog trainers suggested to put him on medication and one even suggested that I have him put down.
Charlotte was really my last chance I am so fortunate that she agreed to take on Austin. He went to the extensive boot camp and what a remarkable difference it made. I could not believe it was the same dog, he was so well behaved but more importantly he was such a happy dog. If it wasn't't missing to be at home, I really think Austin would of preferred staying in boot camp with Charlotte forever.
Charlotte is truly a wonderful dog trainer, teacher and lover. It really takes a lot of patience, love and understanding to do what she does and what she accomplishes. Austin is definitely proof of that. Not only does she train the dog but also knows how important it is to train the owner as well. I have learned so much from her and she is always honest and realistic about the guidance and advice she gives.
Charlotte also assisted me in finding a loving home for a poor stray I found on 4th of July. Elvis, a white male Jindo was so skinny and banged up when I found him. But once again, Charlotte came to the rescue and not only nursed Elvis back to his beautiful self but found him a loving home! She really is a life-saver.
The quality of life for Austin and myself has been so much netter since meeting Charlotte. I cannot thank her enough for bringing sanity and peace back into my household. Words cannot really express my gratitude and I would recommend her to anyone looking for assistance with their beloved pet(s). You cannot trust anyone better!
