After a year-long exhaustive search, Rancho Santa Fe Veterinary Hospital is proud to welcome Dr. Vanessa Flores, the newest doctor to join our team of caring and dedicated veterinarians.
Dr. Vanessa Flores received her undergraduate and master's degrees from the Philosophy Departments at Cornell University and UCLA, respectively. She followed those with a veterinary degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 2006 and has been practicing in the field ever since.
During veterinary school, Dr. Flores received a scholarship for her public service to homeless animals. She completed rotations at several shelters, including the ASPCA in Manhattan, and participated in HSUS rural low-cost spay neuter clinics, once in Guatemala.
Dr. Flores concentrates on primarily dogs and cats, but has a special place in her heart for rats, guinea pigs, and wily rabbits. She brings a wealth of experience with infectious disease management and prevention. Her current endeavors include yoga and tango and tending to Catfish, her crazily cute Persian cat.
We are fortunate to have Dr. Flores join our team. Please feel free to contact her if you have any questions about your pets. Or, the tango!

As we near moving into our new hospital, construction is underway of the new road leading up to it. As a result, the main entrance to Calle Del Nido from San Dieguito Road is temporarily closed until November 18th, 2010.

For now, please use the entrance to Calle Del Nido that originates from El Apajo Road. El Apajo intersects with San Dieguito by the Fairbanks Ranch shopping center next to our hospital.
Calle Del Nido is a single lane road immediately east of Helen Woodward's Animal Center's parking lot on El Apajo. This lane is marked by an orange street sign that says "Helen Woodward Animal Center." Turn into this road. Once through, signs will guide you to our hospital.

We appreciate your patience - please call us if you have any questions at (858) 759-8797!

Rancho Santa Fe Veterinary Hospital, of San Diego County, was established in 2005 by Dr. Deirdre Brandes as a general practice veterinary clinic located at the esteemed Helen Woodward Animal Center.
Our four veterinarians, Dr. Deirdre Brandes, Dr. Anaika Dayton, Dr. Vanessa Flores, and Dr. Sophie Steele work with nearly all pet animals, including dogs, cat, and rabbits, and pocket pets such as rats and hamsters. These vets will also see other exotics such as birds or reptiles on a case-by-case basis.
Our typical day involves seeing healthy pets for annual visits and vaccines, treating our sick patients, providing dental care, performing a spay and neuter or other surgery, and helping with emergencies. And on sad occasions, we also help provide a peaceful passing with a compassionate pet euthanasia. And yes, we also offer house calls with our mobile clinic, even for emergencies, on a limited basis.
Since we've opened, we've helped thousands of cats, dogs, rats, rabbits, and other pets by providing these array of services. Please don't hesitate to call to find out more: We would be honored to be your pet's veterinarian!
Our mission is simple: Provide extraordinary care for all patients, excellent service for all clients, all at a great value.
Finally, we're located in Rancho Santa Fe within San Diego County, just a few miles east of Del Mar and Solana Beach. However, we currently provide services to the pets of many surrounding communities across the greater parts of San Diego, including La Jolla, and Encinitas, Santa Luz, and Carlsbad.
Latest News: Household and Garden Toxins

There are a plethora of items that are potential toxins to pets. Often, toxins are found in everyday items that are easily accessible within your home or garden. In 2009, the Animal Poison Control Center handled over 140,000 pet toxicity cases. The majority of these cases involved basic household items including human and pet medication, insecticides, people food, rodenticides, household cleaners and garden products.
Basic precautions can help save your pet’s life. For instance, use covered trash bins to prevent access to disposed items. Also, keep pets out of storage areas that may contain toxins, such as sheds or garages. Consider using child safety locks on cabinets where household cleaners are kept. Research toxic plants and attempt to keep your garden pet friendly.
