Chef Matteo Ferrari of Matteo in your Kitchen , opened Stella Alpina Osteria in Burlingame, in May 2005, offering authentic, rustic Northern Italian cuisine from the Alps . Matteo is focused on serving the delicious flavors from his hometown in the mountain region of Northern Italy in a cozy and inviting setting at Stella Alpina. Stella Alpina is located in the former Alpine Inn Restaurant that closed for retirement after 27 years of business. Stella Alpina is located at 401 Primrose Road in Burlingame, California. The menu at Stella Alpina infuses the flavors of the Alps; including braised meats, risottos, pastas and ragus. Matteo's signature dishes such as Veal Osso Buco over Mascarpone Polenta and Nonna's Housemade Potato Gnocchi are sure to leave customers wanting more. The menu also includes some Northern Italian classic pasta dishes as well as other traditions from the mountains. The restaurant offers a Full Bar and Italian & California Wines to complement the variety of meals.
The theme and décor of Stella Alpina Osteria (translated Alpine Star Inn) is similar to a mountain inn from the Alps with warm colors on the walls, exposed dark wood beams and dark hardwood floors. As you enter Stella Alpina you are greeted by a beautiful bar to enjoy a cocktail and an appetizer. The restaurant has two dining rooms, holding up to 70 people as well as patio seating for 20. The restaurant can serve parties up to 85.
Born in Varallo Sesia, Italy, Chef Matteo Ferrari has more than 20 years experience cooking world-class meals in restaurants locally, internationally, and even at sea for Princess Cruises for 14 years. Matteo began his career cooking in his Nonna's kitchen making gnocchi, later graduating from the Istituto Alberghiero "Pastore" at Varallo Sesia, and working professionally in restaurants in Tuscany, Northern Italy, Paris and London . In the Bay Area Matteo has worked at a number of restaurants, has taught cooking classes at Whole Foods, and also owns a successful catering business Matteo in your Kitchen.
Matteo and his wife Alisa look forward to bringing the taste of Northern Italy and the Alps to Burlingame .
