Inspired by Saint Pius X, the parish takes to heart his motto: To restore All Things in Christ. This is grounded in personal renewal, parish renewal and in community renewal. The parish celebrates this by actively participating in Eucharist worship, prayer, the Sacraments, promoting social justice and providing a variety of forms of Catholic education available for all members. We are proud of our economic, cultural and age diversity. We share our gifts and resources to live the Gospel of Jesus in a spirit of joy.
St. Pius was born on June 2, 1835, at Riese in the Diocese of Treviso, Italy. Named Joseph Sarto, he was the oldest of eight surviving children of a poor family. (November 28, 2010- 1st Sunday of Advent)
This Sunday is the first day of the new liturgical year for the Church, and we find ourselves with the same end of time, or apocalyptic, readings leading up to the solemnity of Christ the King, which was the previous Sunday.
The beginning of the year strangely carries the same theme as the end of the year. This is due to the fact that the birth of a new year is the death of the old, representing strife and struggle that has been with us in and through our past; however this time is also one of hope in an embarkation onto a new journey into a new world. Advent is a season intended for us to purge from our lives the things, or memories, which hold us, back from embracing a future in Christ. There are many grudges in family relationships and mistakes we have made in our lives. However, embracing this season of preparation of new birth gives us what we need to pass through the difficulties of that past for a glorious future. That good future lies in our choice to stand forward and cry out to our Lord saying, Here I am ready to be transformed into the life of my baptism of divine birth. Baptism is the sacrament of rebirth and Gods action to remake us into sons and daughters of His divine family. The Father and Creator of all things is no longer resting but creating again in the world in order to construct for Himself a holy kingdom. Advent is the season for us to prepare ourselves for this holy labor and to work with God. Are we going to allow ourselves to be gathered up into the kingdom of God this year by going to mass, receiving the sacraments, and living a life for God? Sooner or later we will have to make an accounting of our choices and action to Christ; it would be best to make that accounting now cutting out our excesses and deficits at this new beginning of Advent. Then we move ourselves into our baptismal birth at Christmas dwelling in the kingdom of God. It is only in Gods kingdom that we are able to build up a dwelling which will last forever.
