If you have ever been to the San Francisco City Hall, then you have probably fallen in love with its gorgeous architecture and beautiful light. It’s easy to see why you will want to have your wedding there. Here’s a short guide to provide an intimate wedding at beautiful San Francisco city hall.
How much will it cost you to get married at the San Francisco City Hall?
It doesn’t cost much at all. The marriage license is $99, and you have to pay $75 for the civil ceremony.
Are there intimate spaces that can be rented out?
Yes, the San Francisco City Hall rentsprivate wedding spaces on the fourth floor as well as the Mayor’s Balcony. Prices start at $1,002. You can find more information by calling 415-554-6086.
What prior reservations and appointments do we need to make?
It’s pretty simple. Couples need to make two appointments—the first get a marriage license, and another for the ceremony. Getting your license prior to the ceremony date is recommended if you want a private wedding, but is not necessary for civil ceremonies.
Should you decide to get your license on the same day as the ceremony, set your appointment at least an hour before your ceremony time. Do you intend to get married on popular days, such as Friday afternoons? Try to reserve early. Appointments can be made up to 3 months (90 days) in advance.
What is the process of getting a marriage license?
You don’t necessarily have to be a California (or even a US resident) to get a marriage license in the state. However, you have to be at least 18 years old. You and your soon to be spouse both have to be present. Don’t forget to bring a legal ID with photo.
Are witnesses required?
Yes. Two witnesses have to sign your marriage license. If you don’ t have anyone, ask your photographer!
Where exactly will the ceremony be held?
Civil ceremonies are typically held on the second floor Rotunda, at the top of the beautiful grand staircase. If the day isn’t busy, you might be able to request for your ceremony to be held in other gorgeous spots around the building. The judge who will marry you may or may not agree—but it doesn’t hurt to ask.
How many guests are allowed?
Only six guests are allowed for civil ceremonies, so you can be sure that your wedding will be intimate. That said, judges typically don’t turn away extra guests. Private ceremonies can be bigger, with rooms able to fit over a hundred guests.
