Chester, CA – Lake Almanor real estate group Coldwell Banker Plumas County reminds the public that water safety is a crucial part of any vacation. The Lake Almanor lakefront is one of California’s most beautiful settings and is certainly a beautiful recreational area, but it is a large reservoir - more than 90 feet deep. There is always a danger of drowning while swimming or boating.

To that end, the real estate group (comprised of five offices throughout Plumas County) has published a list of safety tips for the general public, but in particular for vacationers at Lake Almanor as well as local lakefront residents. These include knowing how to swim, swimming with a buddy, and learning CPR.

Everyone in or near the water needs to know how to swim to shore or safely tread water to wait for help from those within reach or emergency responders. Those who cannot swim should wear life vests.Swimmers must never swim alone or let another adult know where they will be swimming and when they plan to return to shore. When a child is swimming, an adult must supervise them. A child’s life should never be entrusted to another child.

Make sure that every member of the family knows the principles of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and how to apply them properly. If a child is missing, first check the nearby waters. If they are in the water, they may very well be in danger, and seconds count. If they are playing in the nearby woods, there will be more time to find them while they are safe.

Swimmers need to stay away from boaters. A propeller can cause serious injury to a swimmer or downed water skier. Boaters need to take a boating safety course to safely operate their boats in these circumstances.
