"Taking traditional patterns and designs found in my Korean heritage, I attempt to create works of art by re-presenting them in modern terms to express my reflections upon my experiences. This foundation combined with my industrial and graphics design background has led me to experiment with new forms of expression by combining my artwork with digital media." Born in Taegu, South Korea, Jang Won Lee received his B.F.A. majoring in Industrial Design from Hong-ik University in Seoul, South Korea. He was awarded the Gold Prize in Industrial Arts at the 2nd Korean National Universities Art Competition. After graduation, for three consecutive years he was awarded the Special Prize at the Korean National Commercial & Industrial Design Competition, entitling him to be a Recommended Artist in future competitions. After immigrating to the U.S., he worked as a senior graphics artist for Hughes Helicopters and Rockwell International for over twelve years. He currently operates an art and framing business, and plans to eventually devote himself more solely to creating art.
