St. John's Chapel is an Episcopalian parish that honors its commitment to the worldwide Anglican Communion and worships using the traditional 1928 Book of Common Prayer. Our mission is to follow Christ, to worship God every Sunday in his church, and to work and pray and give for the spread of his kingdom. BCP, Pg 291
We also describe ourselves as "Traditional Episcopal" because most people in America know of the Anglican tradition through the Episcopal Church and the 1979 Book of Common Prayer. St. John's Chapel is an Episcopalian parish that honors its commitment to the worldwide Anglican Communion. Our parish is part of the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ, faithfully continuing the Anglican tradition. We remain one of the last American parishes to worship using the 1928 Book of Common Prayer and we practice and uphold the historic Catholic Faith, Apostolic Order, Orthodox Worship, and Evangelical Witness of the traditional Anglican Church.
St. Johns Chapel has been part of the Monterey community since 1891 and our congregation has welcomed military, international and Central Coast families for generations . Because every Christian is baptized into a special relationship with Christ, such that his Light may be reflected in our own lives, and expressed in loving service to God and neighbor, we invite all baptized Christians to join us as we partake of our Lord in Word and Sacrament. We are a family focused parish and conduct Family Sunday school for parents and their children prior to the 10:30 am service and provide day care for younger children during that Mass.
