Pastor Mike Mitchum
Rick Warren writes: Gods Christmas gift to you has three qualities that make it unique. First, it is the most expensive gift youll ever receive. Its priceless. Jesus paid for it with his life. Second, its the only gift you’ll ever receive that will last forever. Finally, it is an extremely practical gift — one you’ll use every day for the rest of your life. The Purpose of Christmas, p. 8

People in the Worship Services on Sunday, November 21 were asked what they are thankful to the Lord for. Here are the response we received:

Give thanks to the Lord – His love for me overwhelms my heart
Thru healing of relationships, healing of my body – physically and emotionally. Teaching me to pray – not just with words — but with my heart. Teaching me to tithe — not because I have to but because I want to. Teaching me to show His love to all others — not just the people I am comfortable with. Teaching me humbleness thru my relationship with Him — Thank you for opening my eyes to what you want and desire in my life.
Thank you for delivering me from my drug addiction and my salvation and new life with Jesus.
Remission of 4 different location of my bout with cancer.

A fabulous dinner featuring Roasted Turkey and Ham, All the Trimmings and Delicious Deserts
We want to make this an outreach event, so start thinking of friends you can bring with you for this great evening.
Also bring a small gift for one of the children of our Big Kids Club child care center. Their ages range from 5 to 13 years of age. Many are from low-income families and would be blessed by your thoughtfulness. (Please put a label on the gift listing if it is for a boy or girl and the age range.)

Performed by the Children of CNC
Join us for the CNC Christmas Celebration, sponsored by Childrens Ministry, on Saturday, December 11 at 5:00 PM. We are so excited about this event! We will start with a Christmas program, Christmas Voices, by the kindergarten through 5th grade kiddos. After the performance we will share a potluck dinner. Games, fun, and fellowship will round out the evening.
Get out your party hats were having a Christmas Hat Contest! Anyone who would like to make a hat is welcome to enter the contest. There are only two rules: 1) The hat must have a Christmas theme and 2) You must be able to wear the hat. Thats it! Let your imagination run wild. Judging will take place at the end of the Christmas Celebration.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact Lori Storey at lori@cnchurch.org or 635-5992.

PEP – People Encouraging People
Remember that old song, All I want for Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth? While funny, its also a model for expecting only what is really important to us. What are you expecting from Christmas? Notice I said from, not for.
A real problem is that we expect too much from Christmas. Warm fuzzy advertising encourages us to do that. So we expect the Christmas trees cozy glow to settle long strained relationships and unresolved inner personal struggles.
The answer is not to coldly shove our expectations down and put our hopes on long term lay away. Rather let us think of what is really important. Let your expectations soar toward the highest desires kindled by this season. Deliberately counter society’s materialistic and selfish expectations with the joy and hope of the Christmas story. God has invaded the failing world with His Son of love to bring deliverance and hope to the lost.
We can personally experience Christ invading our hurting lives to turn us from our destructive patterns and to light our lives with hope for the future. This Christmas let us expect a new sense of Gods love for us and hope for what He can do in our lives. Charles Wesley summed it up in a Christmas hymn: Come, Thou long-expected Jesus, Born to set Thy people free; From our fears and sins release us; Let us find our rest in Thee.

On Saturday, April 30, 2011, all are invited to attend a breakfast (which will be cooked by Mens Ministry) and then support the women as they walk at the high school track. All the proceeds from the donation breakfast and walkathon will go to a womens center in the Middle East.
The Womens Ministry Team is setting up a committee to make this event happen and happen well. If youd like to be a part of this team, please contact Susan, 635-5992 x14 or susan@cnchurch.org.
To encourage one another in our walking efforts, we will meet the fourth Saturday of January, February and March at the Mills Middle School track at 8 a.m. We will walk, talk and encourage one another for an hour then well go someplace for a snack. Each month it will be someplace different, like Jamba Juice or Starbucks.
Put these dates on your calendar and call Susan at 635-5992 today to join the walkathon committee.
