About Me, Tax Attorney Thomas J. Fernandez
I earned an LL.M in Taxation from Georgetown University Law Center, then was a senior trial attorney for the IRS for six years prior to forming a boutique tax law firm. I know how tax agencies work. As an IRS attorney, I advised revenue agents, international tax examiners, estate and gift tax examiners, revenue officers, and appeals officers regarding complicated tax issues and procedural matters. I use this experience and training to defend my clients against unfair tax liability and to resolve their tax issues.
I represent individual and business taxpayers before the IRS, the California Franchise Tax Board, the California Employment Development Department, the California Board of Equalization, and county tax boards. I also represent clients in administrative appeals before tax agencies, before the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, and before the U.S. Tax Court.
I enjoy helping taxpayers, and I charge reasonable rates for tax planning services and for representation in audits, administrative tax appeals, and California and federal court appeals. I provide civil tax fraud defense and help clients resolve tax liens, tax levies and wage garnishment.
