About P.O.R.G.I.E.
At P.O.R.G.I.E. we use a positive, wholistic approach to teaching dogs and people. Instead of choke chains or punishments we use loving, positive, gentle techniques that create a relationship of mutual trust and respect.
Using clickers, the puppy is first taught the meaning of a word before it is used as a command. Kindness teaching is not only positive reinforcement but also understanding and respecting the "dog's point of view."
Problem solving is accomplished by properly defining the problem and setting up new rules. The rules are then carefully taught to the dog before they are enforced. This allows the dog to still do his doggy things within the family's guidelines.
ABOUT LINDA GOODMAN
Linda was born in Stratford, Connecticut. Her first dog was a Labrador cross breed whom she named Midnite. After graduating from the University of Connecticut, she moved to Schenectady, New York to work for General Electric. There she acquired another dog, Porgy. In 1969, Linda moved to California to work for TRW and Porgy came with her.
Porgy died in 1983. To ease the pain, Linda became a member of the board of directors for the West End Shelter for Animals in Ontario, CA - a great way to learn about animal care, behavior and people.
During her two years on the board, Linda co-ordinated a volunteer program, pet adoption counseling, pet bereavement counseling and pet visits to hospitals and nursing homes.
Linda has cared for and taught dogs for most of her life and traveled from San Diego to San Francisco to Hawaii to consult with and learn from veterinarians, animal behaviorists and humane groups.
In 1986 she struck out on her own to start P.O.R.G.I.E. and now has her own indoor teaching center in Riverside, CA.
Linda's humane and enjoyable methods of positive, clicker teaching for dogs and their people have earned the respect of professionals and dog lovers alike.
She is the author of the book JUST SAY "GOOD DOG!" and a member, in good standing, of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT) and Dog Writers Association of America (DWAA).
