Urban Wildlife Management was a prevailing co-plaintiff in a federal civil rights lawsuit that successfully challenged the constitutionality of a state occupational licensing law. The Federal Court has issued a permanent injunction against the State of California preventing the state from enforcing Business and Professions Code, Section 8555(g) against Urban Wildlife Management so long as the company maintains liability insurance and refrains from using pesticides to control vertebrate pests.
The economic benefit resulting from this federal injunction is that the new owner of Urban Wildlife Management will be completely exempted from the various costs associated with obtaining and maintaining a Branch 2 Structural Pest Control license.
Alan Merrifield has operated his wildlife control business in San Francisco, San Mateo and Santa Clara counties for over 30 years. He is Northern California’s only Certified Wildlife Control Professional and California’s only contractor licensed in the field of Animal Damage & Bird Control. Alan has been a state-licensed trapper of furbearing and nongame mammals for twenty years. In 2008 he received the “Professional of the Year” Award from the National Wildlife Control Operators Association. Although retiring from business, Alan will continue in his role as President of the California Nuisance Wildlife Control Operators Association.
Alan Merrifield is retiring from the active wildlife control business and is prepared to agree to refrain from engaging in any wildlife control business activity under any business name.
