This site is aimed at people who's jobs are "creating the future"… ie architects, city planners, teachers, graphic designers, car designers, web developers, clothing and shoe designers, industrial designers, product designers, artists, etc. It is about good design, architecture, classic design of all sorts, central california cultural anthropology, bikes and bike culture, city planning… with a bit of quantum physics and my own history tossed in. Fairly random I know but some of these things combine together to make our world better. The movement… in my mind… is the attempt by all of us to make our world and our lives better and happier via quality design and planning.
This Streetfilms video makes a great case for physically separated Bike Lanes.

Vision Street Wear retrospective article in Sneaker Freaker Magazine
Warning… random ego driven post.
Sneaker Freaker Magazine recently interviewed me on my duties as Director of Design for Vision Street Wear (VSW)… back in the late 80′s. We were the first company to design and manufacture clothing for skateboarders. Prior to VSW… skaters mostly just looked like surfers. Today… 25 years later… skate style is well known.
Here is a link to a large PDF of the story they wrote up on the history of Vision.

Dr. Matt Ritter… a professor at our local university… and my good buddy… sent me this really clear presentation on the state of education in the world… very clear idea on what we as humans should be focussing on with respect to education.

I found this link on www.copenhagenize.com this am… SO COOL! These kids formed their own bike club… and as a group they ride to school even though the city where they live has no infrastructure for bikes. I imagine that over time… movements like this will convince the powers that be to include more pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure. Notice how the teenagers are saying… why buy a car?!

new Belleville from Trek looks like the old french randonneuring bikes from the earlier parts of the 20′s century. Cyclotouring was a big thing back when the average frenchman couldn’t afford a car. These days… it is a bike to be worn with your tweeds… after sipping an espresso with your college professor friends. This frame shape is known as a “mixte” and was meant for either men or women back in the day… but mostly women buy them now. I am guessing that Mixte’s are going to take off and replace the fixie to a certain degree. There are several frame builders making these now. Velo-Orange is making them… and Soma too.

Great new National Geographic book called “Thrive” (by Dan Buettner) touts San Luis Obispo as the happiest spot in America. As a resident here… that makes me pretty proud!
SLO is mentioned along with Denmark, Singapore, and Nuevo Leon in Mexico as one of the happiest places on the planet.

awesome graphic from the “Societe Anomyme Inc” or effectively…”corporation inc”! (“societe anonyme” is french for “Corporation”) Founded in 1920 by Katherine Dreier, Man Ray, and Marcel Duchamp to sponsor lectures, concerts, publications and exhibitions of or on Modern art.
Such a funny name… and really nice art. Dirty colors are nice.

the Rock surfing crew… Morro Bay… circa 1979! (i’m on the right). This shot totally reminds me of the movie “dazed and confused”. iconic late 1970′s era look. Notable details…flared pants, feathered hair, down jacket, down vest, Birkenstocks. Difficult to discern whether this look is surf… or just stoner. It’s kinda cool again though…. after years in the… holy crap what were they thinking pile.

my buddy Zazz sent me this mockup of his idea for the upper monterey st. RR trestle in San Luis Obispo, CA. Pretty cool idea. It sure would give that neighborhood some identity! here is a link to his business site… Story Ad Network.
