Old World Rugs is a local, family owned and operated business located in downtown San Luis Obispo. We have been in business for over 20 years now in our original location at 1021 Broad St., across from the Art Center.

We specialize in hand washing oriental and area rugs. The rugs are totally submerged in a bath with cold soft water, rinsed thoroughly, and the pH is balanced with a conditioner to restore the color and texture of the rug. The rugs are then dried on a rack with a lot of air movement. Special attention is given to the fringes.

All rugs are pretested to determine the stability of their dyes. Tribal rugs and others with fugitive dyes are treated with a dye lock to prevent the colors from bleeding.

The cleaning process takes approximately 10 days.

Our store carries a large selection of Turkish, Persian, Chinese, Indian, and Contemporary rugs. We also carry Karastan, Nourison, and other well known machine made rugs. We offer in-home rug trials, so you can ensure that the rug(s) you select will fit well with your home environment.

Rug prices vary depending on the size of the rug and the type of rug.
