Welcome to Asian Law Alliance (ALA).
Since a group of law students from Santa Clara University founded the Asian Law Alliance to provide legal assistance to the Asian Pacific Islander communities over three decades ago, the Asian Law Alliance, a non-profit organization, has become the cornerstone legal services provider for the Asian/ Pacific Islander community within Santa Clara County.
We hope that you find our web site useful. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us.
ALA programs are designed to make legal services accessible to Asian/Pacific Islanders and low-income people.
Delivering services in Asian/Pacific Islander languages.
Providing consultation and legal representation on a free or low-cost basis.
The major goal of the Community Education (CE) program is to prevent legal crisis through awareness. Through the CE Program of educational presentations and pamphlets, members of the community gain a working knowledge of their legal rights and responsibilities.
In the past 32 years, ALA has addressed a number of significant issues through its community organizing and educational programs, including:
In 1988, ALA helped to successfully contest a ten minute voting rule as a violation of the constitutional and federal voting rights laws due to the rule's discriminatory impact on language minorities.
Participating in the redress campaign for Japanese Americans incarcerated by the U.S. Government during World War II.
Experience highlights of its history, struggle, and celebrations chronicled in this 8 minute film, narrated by Donald Tamaki (an ALA founder) and created by Verna Lim (of Vida Studios Productions).
