Labiaplasty and Vaginoplasty

Labiaplasty Cosmetic Vaginal Surgery is plastic surgery of the the external folds of the female genital organs that surround theVagina also called the Vulva. The procedure involves reshaping or reducing the size of of the labia that may become enlargened over a period of time or due to any one of several reasons such as: childbirth, injury or disease. Although enlargened labia is not a health issue for many women it may be an issue of functionality or appearance. Many patients complain that elongated labia become painful during exercise, while sitting for long periods of time, during sexual intercourse, or due to rubbing on clothing. Surgical reduction is a permanent solution to this situation that will result in a smaller, normal-looking labia.
Dr. Mayhew will perform the labiaplasty surgery in Los Gatos. It usually takes one to two weeks before patients can resume normal activities. Mild discomfort, swelling and bruising may be experienced.

Genital/Vaginal Reconstruction

Female Genital Reconstruction Surgery (Vaginoplasty) is plastic surgery to repair or reshape or reduce the vaginal muscles and/or the perineum, and interior/posterior repair, and also reshape the mons pubis. The vaginoplasty surgery tightens the vaginal walls, reinforces the vaginal support (muscles and connective tissue), and tightens the vaginal opening. You may hear variations of terms such as: vulvar-vaginal reconstruction, perineum, perineal trauma, perineal dysfunction, sexual abuse, parturition, vaginal introitus, acute deceleration injury, straddle injury, insertion injury, forceful coitus, intrapartum laceration, obstetric trauma.
Vaginoplasty is the surgery that tightens and rebuilds the vaginal muscles and the perineum. Childbirth, (especially multiple childbirths), and other genetic factors often cause the vaginal muscles to stretch, tear, or weaken. The size of the vagina swells larger and sometimes there is a loss of sensation (and pleasure). In some cases it can lead to urinary incontinence or leaking.
Vaginoplasty tightens the vagina which will aid in increasing sexual pleasure for the woman. Vaginoplasty also addresses urinary incontinence, hernia, and interior/posterior repair. You may hear variations of terms such as: labiaplasty or laser labiaplasty or vaginal rejuvenation and vaginoplasty or laser vaginoplasty or vaginal tightening. All the terms mean the same thing for surgically altering and tightening the vaginal muscles.
