The reason is those big nursery departments get their plants from a central location. And that's going to be somewhere that is cool and moist and makes growing easy. So a plant goes from 70 degrees to 105! It is no wonder the little guy looks sad. While it is cheaper for the chain stores to sell you plants from a cooler climate it doesn't make sense here in the Valley.
