St. Joseph's Cultural Center is owned and operated by the Historic Mt. St. Marys Preservation Committee, a 501( c )3 non-profit organization, dedicated to preserving a State of California historic landmark for cultural affairs in the community. The Cultural Center is housed in a brick building completed in 1866.

The Cultural Center (aka STJCC) features the Grass Valley Museum,
13 artists studios and Menlo Macfarlane's Art Gallery in the Bishop's Room, the Moving Ground Dance Studio, John Olmsteads Earth Planet Museum, and the Grass Valley Taiko Dojo.

St. Josephs Hall is a wood building, completed in 1894, and is a multi-use facility capable of holding weddings, receptions, concerts, recitals, workshops, dances, classes, birthday parties, family reunions, memorial services, and other meetings.

The historic Rose Garden is divided by hedgerows in four parts. There are two statues, a fountain and a sundial. The fauna features three kinds of Holly trees, Crepe Myrtle trees, Cedar trees, over 100 rose bushes, and the only place in Grass Valley you would find Palm trees. It surrounded by wrought iron fencing and a brick wall.

Take Highway 80 East towards Reno. At Auburn take the Grass Valley/Placerville (Hwy 49 Exit).

Take a left at the light at the end of the exit, which is Hwy 49 North towards Grass Valley. Leaving Auburn you will pass many strip malls/stores and shops. Hwy 49 will begin to enter a more rural area and then becomes a two-lane road. When you cross the Bear River, you have entered Nevada County. The distance from Auburn to Grass Valley on Hwy 49 is roughly 23 miles.

As you enter Grass Valley, Hwy 49 becomes a raised freeway. The first exit is McKnight Way; the second exit is Hwy 20/Empire St./Fairgrounds. The third exit is Colfax/Hwy 174 take this exit. At the stop sign at the end of the exit - turn left Go under the highway to traffic light. There is another traffic light roughly fifty feet beyond the fist light. Turn left at this second traffic light Neal Street A large Safeway supermarket is on your left.

Proceed to a 4 way stop this is Mill Street (downtown Grass Valley) Go straight and proceed to another 4 way stop. This is the corner of Neal St. and South Church Street.

There are banks on three of the four corners. Turn left onto South Church Street. Keep straight after the first stop sign to end of street South Church St. ends at a T with a stop sign you are facing St. Patricks Church. St. Josephs Cultural Center is the large three story white building back over your right shoulder you cannot see it driving along South Church St. because of a brick wall and tall trees surrounding it.

Then walk between the white building and the red brick building (Mt. St. Marys Academy) and go up the wooden stairway to the second floor. The Office is at the top of the stairs, turn right to the Grass Valley Museum, or head left all the way down the Hall of the white building to St. Josephs Hall.
