Welcome to Gold Hill Retreat!
My grandparents, Achille Marchini and Asunta Africano, didn't know each other when they came from Italy to the United States in their teens. They met, fell in love, married and raised four children in the San Francisco Bay Area. They moved to South Lake Tahoe in 1961 to run a family business until they're retirement in 1971. After retirement they bought this ranch at the base of the historic Gold Hill, near the Coloma Valley where in 1849 the California Gold Rush began! They passed the time raising Polled Herefords, fishing and pheasant hunting in the Sacramento Valley.
In 1995, I moved my family here from Lake Tahoe and began to research different ways to infuse new life into this beautiful old ranch. Another Marchini family originally developed the property around 1850. The main house was built in 1951. We decided to share it for weddings, events, conferences and as a vacation rental. The main house was remodeled in 2002 with that use in mind. The rest of the ranch is a working olive grove.
