As we look back over 2009, while many are glad that it is over, MORE had so much to celebrate!
In tough economic we ended our fiscal year in June in the black by $41K
In July, MORE celebrated our 40th Anniversary since becoming incorporated
Our Autism Spectrum Disorders Services are receiving accolades from the most important group of people..the parents, families and clients!
Our staff has grown to 75 employees and is still growing as MORE continues to seek out applicants to fill new job positions!
We received approval from DDS and Alta California Regional Center to begin our newest program in Independent Living Services.
Our Board Retreat in November was the best one ever.
While there continues to be concern about the slow turnaround and recovery, we are optimistic about 2010.
January 2010 started out with the Art and Wine Festival which again in financially challenging times turned out to be a huge success Attendance was the best it has been in all our 7 years of hosting this event at approximately 750 people We raised over $43K in gross revenue which will benefit Kiwanis of Placerville and the youth of our community as well as MORE programs and services. This event was a true reflection of the community coming together to support two worthwhile organizations that in turn support over 20 other non-profits or projects in this county.
The highlight of the Art & Wine Festival was the moving musical performance by Nathaniel who attends MORE's program for adults with autism spectrum disorders. Nathaniel plays with only one hand, but he puts a great deal of emotion and feeling into his performance making his music, masterpieces. Many were moved to tears and what better way to demonstrate the difference that MORE is making in the lives of adults with disabilities
As the fiscal challenges of this state start to change landmark legislation that once protected this population of people, it becomes increasingly important for MORE as an organization continue to foster and grow our business partnerships and develop new ones. We are grateful that we operate in a county where collaboration is not just a nice sounding word but an action implemented by all levels of people and groups in this community.
This year we have plans in the works to increase our business services such as our wine club packaging, janitorial, and shredding services as well as increasing our fund development efforts. We are also researching possibilities of work opportunities in the agriculture area of this community. The current economic environment offers us an opportunity to make a move toward our long term goal of becoming more self reliant, and less dependent upon government funding, and with the help of our generous supporters I am confident that we will get there.
