CareerMakeover/Michael Stinson & Associates agrees with Howard Figler and Richard Bolles (What Color is Your Parachute? and the Career Counselor's Handbook) when listing the 6 primary objectives of career counseling:
Assume responsibility for your own career development and take charge.
Imagine career ideas and feel free and safe to dream.
Identify and use your favorite functional and adaptive skills.
Deal with negative emotions or thoughts which inhibit your career process.
Know how to determine steps to a career goal ... taking the path from where you are now to the career you really want.
Choose work that has a deep sense of meaning and purpose ... finding the career you were born to pursue.
