Doctor Martin was born in Spain during her father's deployment there, and came to San Diego when she was one year old. She grew up in San Carlos and graduated from Patrick Henry in 1983. She attended UC Davis and received her BS in Zoology in 1989 and her doctorate in veterinary medicine in 1994. After returning to San Diego Dr Martin worked in a five-doctor practice in El Cajon for 11 years( 3 years as an associate, 5 years as hospital director, and 3 years as medical director). Doctor Martin realized her dream of owning her own hospital in April of 2006 when she established Cuyamaca Animal Hospital. One year later she opened her luxury boarding facility, Furry Friends Resort. View

Dohn was born and raised in San Diego. His love of travel has taken him to live in various parts of the U.S. but San Diego is "Home." His career history is primarily in retail and office management. Dohn met Dr Martin in the Spring of 2000 and fell in love with her compassion, and her commitment to her patients and her craft. Dohn has worked for Dr Martin since then and is one of the founding members of Cuyamaca Animal Hospital. Dohn spends his free time at his house in the country with his best friend Tess (his Collie mix). There they garden, hike, and chase their pet chickens and pugs. View

Stephanie was born and raised in El Cajon. Her lifelong passion for animals made her a natural for the veterinary field. She trained as a Veterinary Technician years ago at a large practice in El Cajon where she met Dr. Martin and many of our staff. After honing her skills Stephanie left that hospital to manage a large boarding facility in East County. When Dr. Martin opened Furry Friends Resort in 2007 Stephanie was the obvious choice to manage it. She has established the resort as a vacation destination for your cherished pets. Her lovely smile and cheerful disposition have earned her the respect and admiration of her coworkers, and we are very pleased that she is once again an active part of our family. View

Joseph (Joey) came to us in February of 2008. Joey had befriended one of our staff members by swatting her legs each night when she would get home from work. One night our staff member became concerned because Joey was not there to attack her when she arrived at home. She searched for Joey and found him under a parked car with a swollen face and leg. Of course she rushed him right in. Joey had a fractured jaw, a broken tooth, and injuries to one of his legs. After some minor surgery and a couple weeks of recovery time Joseph was back to his ornery self. He now lives here at Furry Friends Resort where he spends his days napping and harrassing the staff until they give him treats. A very tough existence. View

News:

Rattlesnakes are always a danger here in Southern California. As the weather warms we see them more and more often. Keep your loved ones safe this Summer by being more aware. The San Diego Natural History Museum has some great information on their website http://www.sdnhm.org.
Here are some safety tips that they recommend:
"Don't ever put your hands or feet anywhere you aren't looking. Don't put your hands on rocks or branches over your head, and don't put your hands or feet under anything. Snakes usually pick up the vibrations of feet and walking sticks and get out of the way, but sometimes do not.
Walk, don't run, especially in unfamiliar, grassy, brushy, or rocky areas. Never let a dog run loose; always keep a dog leashed no matter how good it normally is. Running means that you may surprise a snake (and they don't like surprises), and dogs are fascinated with rattlesnakes and will not leave them alone. A large snake can easily kill a small dog."

Cuyamaca Animal Hospital offers the Rattlesnake Vaccine created by Red Rock Biologics http://www.redrockbiologics.com/ .
Please contact us today to discuss how the vaccine works.
