Dedicated to helping people live a happier life with their dogs and helping dogs to live happier lives with their people.
Gentle Touch offers both group classes and in-home private training. Group classes are limited to approximately 10 participants to ensure personal attention. The classes are held at our new training center.
All training is based on the tenants of Clicker Training, a gentle approach using positive reinforcement to shape your dogs behaviors. (This is the same way marine mammals are trained.)

Video Training Tips
Teaching "OFF"
Off is a cue that communicates to your dog to keep four paws on the floor. Get off the furniture, get your paws off the kitchen counter, off the door, etc. Because dogs naturally put their paws up on things, this is a "good manners" behavior that will make your life with your dog much easier.
Teaching "Calming Ovals"
One of the most important things we can do is teach your dog how to bring their own arousal level down. Over arousal can lead to an out-of-control dog and also can be one of the primary precursors to aggression.
Teaching "Leave-It"
Leave-It is a proactive cue to communicate to your dog to back away and leave an object alone. It is not a reprimand. You can use it to ask your dog to leave your dinner, the cat, the child, or a dead bird on the beach. It's also another way to have your dog exercise self control.

In all of creation, it was only the dog that chose freely to leave his own world and walk beside us in ours. For over 100,000 years, they have shared our caves, our huts, our tepees our igloos, our cabins, our farmhouses, our apartments and condos, and even a thin blanket on a cold city street with a homeless person. All across this earth, in every place man inhabits, he has sought to share his life, his work, his world with a dog, and unique among all four legged creatures, the dog has sought to understand and share his life with us.
The journey through life with each of our dogs, especially for those of us who consider ourselves dog people, is amazing and wonderful. Learn how to develop a deep connection with your dog through positive training.

Penny has been following her Nose all her life. It has taken her on many exciting journeys, chasing squirrels, deer, mice, and countless nameless critters. While I privately marveled at this talent, there didnt seem to be a role for me other than to admire her skills as an observer.
Frequently Asked Questions about the Nose Work Classes at Gentle Touch Pet Training
Do you want to know more about Nose Work?
You could go here: www.funnosework.com These people invented the sport. You could think of it like this: as rodeo is to ranch work, nosework is to scent detection. You're not going to go out and do search and rescue and bust a drug kingpin, but you'll be able to show off some pretty neat skills that your dog has and you refined. Plus you could win a ribbon or two and get a title to put after your dogs name. www.nacsw.net/titles/nw3.html
"What kind of dog do I need?"
Your dog! Any dog can do this. You don't need a scent hound. You don't need a young, agile dog.
