Welcome to our gallery! We are conveniently located at the flagpole in downtown Los Olivos, California. In the heart of the Santa Ynez Valley, this charming little town is known for its art galleries. Today it has become a very popular destination for vineyard and wine tasting enthusiasts. The moviegoers will remember “Return to Mayberry RFD” in 1986, and “Sideways” in 2003, to bookend the town.
The building is a part of the history of Los Olivos. The c1930’s building that houses the gallery was Mrs. Down’s Market and her family’s residence. It anchors the corner of down town Los Olivos at the flag pole. We moved to this location in May 1997. Sharing the parcel is an old tin-sided building that was once a blacksmith’s shop. It is one of several buildings of its type in Los Olivos. In 1923 a mysterious dynamite explosion blew up the smith’s detached residence late one night...it remains an unsolved murder mystery, or so they say. That old building became an art gallery in 1975. It was operated as part of the Judith Hale Gallery for eight years from 2000-08.
The mature trees planted by residents of the past have provided anchors for the development and design of our sculpture garden. The humorous sculptures in the garden delight locals and visitors alike. It offers a lovely venue for gallery receptions and events.
We are proud to present a collection of artwork as varied as the history of our buildings. The gallery represents over 80 nationally and regionally recognized artists working in all media, so there is a lot to enjoy. While gallery themes vary from whimsical to serious and traditional to western, the quality will not disappoint the viewer.
Thanks for visiting online, and be sure to stop by when you’re in our area!!!
