Conveniently located in the community of Loomis, California, just northeast of Sacramento, we are pleased to offer a practice unique to the area. With the exception of the U.C. Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, we are the only facility between San Francisco and Reno offering hospitalization, surgery and intensive care for horses. The original Loomis Basin Veterinary Clinic was established in 1975 for both farm and companion animals. In 1991, the large animal clinic was established as an independent practice in order to improve patient care by focusing services primarily on horses. With the equine hospital opened in 2004, the practice was officially renamed Loomis Basin Equine Medical Center in 2005.
Today, Drs. Langdon Fielding, Jill Higgins, and Catherine Jacobs are co-owners of the Equine Medical Center. These three doctors bring a combination of specialty training focusing on continuing education, energy, and a commitment to quality health care for horses. Associate doctors are selected for their high professional standards, humanitarian spirit, and specific interest in horses. Similarly, our animal health technicians and administrative staff have selected equine veterinary jobs because of their interest and caring.

All doctors and staff are highly trained in the latest medical techniques for equine care. More important is the entire staff’s total commitment to the care and comfort of individual patients. The successful recovery of many of our hospital patients relates directly to the excellent medical and nursing care provided by this team effort. Direct communication between clients and doctors is an important and unique feature of our practice. We believe a well informed owner greatly contributes to the quality of the medical care we are able to provide to our patients.
As part of our commitment to providing the highest quality medical care possible for our patients, we provide a qualified equine practitioner on emergency call after regular hours, Sundays and holidays throughout the year, and can provide hospitalization and 24 hour intensive care for critical medical and surgical cases at any time of the day or night.
