"Where Language and Culture Come to Life"
Give your child the gift of foreign language!
We believe that learning a foreign language in the pre-school and elementary school years is an essential part of a child's education and development. Today's children need to be prepared to live and work in a global context.
Scientific studies (PDF) indicate that there are sound physiological and psychological reasons to initiate foreign language study with children at an early age. Cognitive research shows that very young children learn language easily due to the elasticity of the brain. In fact, this research states that the learning window, when the peak acquisition of a foreign language occurs, is between birth and ten years of age. Yet, for most students, foreign language is introduced and formally studied when they are twelve years of age or older.
In addition, studies have shown (PDF) -- and experience has supported -- that children who learn a language before the onset of adolescence are much more likely to have native-like pronunciation.
But how do I fit it in?
With so many demands already placed on children, parents might ask: What options are available? How can I fit this in to my child's busy after-school life?
The answer is the flexible Viva el Espaol! program! Elementary school students pay one monthly fee, and attend as many classes as their schedule allows. With various time options offered each week, it is highly likely that Spanish language learning can be worked in with whatever sport or activity your child has each season. Attendance a minimum of two times weekly is desired, and ideally three to four times per week. At Viva el Espaol!, our goal is to provide high quality Spanish language instruction to students from pre-school to grade 8.
