Rest..To cease from effort or activity, to be at peace, and tranquil for a time.
The body and spirit need rest. Not rest as in being idle, but one that is restorative to both our physical and emotional well being. A garden creates a natural environment, providing us with the quiet solitude needed to help lift the burden of our oftentimes hectic lifestyle. Upon entering a garden on is made to feel as though they have passed a mystical gate. Where time stands, if not still, moves more slowly. The garden is that rare and proper place for the spirit, where concerns of the spirit for beauty, contemplation, quiet, and observance take precedence over the busier concerns of daily life. The great many works of poetry and literature, of music and paintings, of architecture and religion, all provide us with the evidence that the spirit cannot thrive without beauty. If one were to define a garden it may be said that it is a place where raw nature meets with the human imagination, and together seek the fulfillment of their beauty. Resting in one's garden is where the spirit finds its' needed escape from life and its entry into a space where eternity is more evident than time. It's a place set apart where the aromas and scents of earth and flowers, the sights of brilliant colors and butterflies consume all senses. One can almost taste the sweetness of the air. It's a wonderful, enchanting, spiritual place. The brilliance of the garden is of the protecting spirits, a companion, a guardian, and so it is appropriate to have a garden beautify your home. Recall Voltaire's Candide, who traveled the world in search of meaning of life, and ended up where he began, resting at home in his garden.
