A medical specialty that deals with the medical and surgical management of patients with diseases and disorders of the ear, nose and throat and related structures of the head and neck including the ears, sinuses, voice box, mouth, throat, neck and face in children and adults.
Ear problems would include hearing loss, ear infections, balance disorders and ear noises.
Nasal problems would include sinus infections, allergies and loss of sense of smell as well as appearance problems of the nose.
Throat problems would include infections, tumors, facial injuries, and cosmetic complaints.
Some ear, nose, and throat specialists subspecialize in one of the seven subspecialty areas that include pediatric otolaryngology (children), otology/neurotology (ears, balance and tinnitus), allergy, facial plastic and reconstructive surgery, head and neck, laryngology (throat) and rhinology (nose).
Otolaryngologists are trained in both medicine and surgery.
