It is illegal to throw your fluorescent lighting in the trash, because they contain toxic materials. But there are several ways to dispose of them that are legal and safe for you and the environment.

When you put non-recyclables (e.g., styrofoam) in with recyclables you create more work for everyone who has to handle the materials and may actually put people at risk with a hazardous substance. For current status and work schedule information for the McCourtney Road Transfer Station, call 530-265-1729 anytime. The McCourtney Road Transfer Station is NOW CLOSED MONDAY AND TUESDAY. Operation hours are 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM Wednesday through Sunday.
