So close to the Bay Area and other population centers, but yet so remote... Everything is here to transport you out of the every day - our friendly staff, out comfortable accommodations, and the varied beauty of surrounding nature. You are now in one of California's most spectacular regions.

For Winter adventures, you can cross country ski or downhill ski at nearby Dodge Ridge Ski Resort Dodge Ridge is located 30 miles east of Sonora, near Pinecrest , just off of Highway 108. Turn right off of 108 at the well signed "Y" to Pinecrest Lake Road . About a 1/3 mile down Pinecrest Lake Road take the first right onto Dodge Ridge Road. We're just a few miles up the road..

At Leland Snow Park you can play in the snow with inner tubes,sleds or discs. Or you can strike out on your own and snowshoe or snowmobile miles of mountain roads.

The Strawberry Inn was established in 1939 as an outpost for adventuresome travelers of the era. Today, Vic and Judith Vaitys welcome you to the recently remodeled Inn. Knotty pine, a stone fireplace, and an excellent collection of paintings, sculptures and woodcarvings decorate the Inn, providing an accent to an already beautiful setting.

Enjoy one of the finest areas along the historic Sonora Pass while at our Inn. View the Stanislaus River from your table in the Restaurant-by-the-River. It is warm and cozy in the Winter. In the Summer, a light breeze caresses you while dining in our gazebo on the River.

Strawberry Inn has something for everyone any time of the year. Even though the primary seasons of Winter and Summer attract the most travelers, Spring and Fall are exceptional.

In the Spring the light green leaves of aspen and cottonwood, and the bloom of wildflowers signal a mountain rebirth. The days are balmy and nights are cool. Through April there may be an occasional snowy surprise, that soon melts and adds an adventure to the day.

Fall in the Sierra Nevada Mountains is a colorful passage into Winter, as aspen and cottonwood turn yellow against the deep green of the conifers. The temperatures are cooler and even more comfortable than in the Summer. The crowds are gone - it is peaceful and private. Both Spring and Fall are hidden treasures, that are really extraordinary. It surprises us that more people do not enjoy these times.

In Summer you may choose to swim, canoe, water ski or fish in the pristine waters of Pinecrest Lake (1.5 miles away). Backpacking trips are available throughout the area. Perhaps you will take a walking stick and hike miles of trails, including the famous Pacific Crest Trail, or you may just wish to sightsee and take the beautiful drive to the Sonora Pass. The Strawberry Inn provides and excellent stopover for touring cyclists, and extensive paths for the mountain biking enthusiast. Lake and stream fishing or mushroom hunting are lots of fun, too.
