History and Mission
California Brokers Institute was founded in 1974 as California Brokers Exchange and offered the four required college courses for broker candidates (no courses were required for sales licensees). In the late '70s two more courses for brokers were approved by the California Department of Real Estate as well as the first required 45 hour "continuing education" courses as mandated by the DRE.
In 1986, a total of eight broker courses were offered as well as the new "Principles" course required by sales applicants. Today, we have a total of 12 home study licensing courses for sales and broker candidates as well as continuing education courses. In addition, a "live" Principles course is now available at our West Valley office plus other outlying locations.
"Our purpose for offering these courses is to provide you with the finest materials available in real estate education at a reasonable cost. We do not publish our own textbooks or buy generic books just to maximize profits. We only use the most recent texts that are California-oriented, since you are preparing for a California exam."

About Don Kalal G.R.I.
A graduate of the business college of Loyola University of Los Angeles, Don has been committed to real estate education and training since 1971. He has personally prepared over 250,000 students for the California license exam. During the 1980s he honed his unique training style and skills as a training consultant for Xerox Learning Systems and successfully completed training programs by the Management Research Institute and Lifespring organization. As a past-president of Toastmasters (Santa Monica), he culminated his gift at humor by winning the western region humorous speech contest.
Since 1986, he has owned and operated California Brokers Institute which is approved by the Department of Real Estate to offer the required sales/broker license qualification courses. He is on the Department of Real Estate master list of approved lecturers/instructors.
