Since 1972 I have been working in Sacramento as a roofer. Most of my expertise came from working on new track homes. Later, I worked for a commercial roofing company and learned other skills in flat roofing and repair work. Finally, in 1981 I got licensed and began working for myself. Things went well and I became more in demand but couldn’t take on more than one roofer could do. In 1985 I took on a partner and for the next seven years we worked well together but decided to do our own thing again. I have taken things in gradual steps for a long time because of the rate of failures in the roofing business. My concern is that my reputation will not be compromised and I can work in this area for the rest of my life knowing I have done the right thing by people.
For now I work on most of my projects (your roofs) to maintain quality and head off problems before they become too big. I think having the right people working with you in this business is so important. So much so that finding the ones that will work as though their own reputations depended on it is not easy. Consequently, you are always looking for ways to promote your business through advertising and paying your employees well enough that they will receive the reward they deserve and will continue to hang around. That’s one reason I have relied on word of mouth mostly for the fact that we can keep costs down and our cost to you lower as well.
