THE CEDARS OF MARIN offers a high quality of life to persons with developmental disabilities in order to foster independence, defend dignity, and realize each person’s full potential.
Interim Director Leverages Cedars' Strengths
Chuck Green led ten non-profits through successful transitions before joining The Cedars as Interim Director. He's preparing Cedars for its next Executive Director by working closely with the staff and board to capitalize on areas in which we excel and fine tune policies and procedures to insure that we're best in class.
"I’ve been so impressed with the quality of the relationships that have been the hallmark of The Cedars' history," Green said, "as well as the unparalleled day programs that are lauded by all."
To strengthen Cedars' residential care and home programming, Green is leveraging the wisdom of Debbie Levy, former Executive Director of Lifehouse, a premier organization which, like Cedars, provides residential care for adults with developmental disabilities in Marin County, California.

With staff support, clients of the Textile Art Center's day program are launching their own business growing and selling flower bulbs.
Thus far, they've researched and purchased thousands of tulip and daffodil bulbs wholesale, stored them in a donated refrigerator, planted the bulbs in pots, and built a makeshift greenhouse to protect them.
Cedars of Marin board member Margie Ellis donated two Meyer lemon trees, which have since been planted. If they do well, lemons could be the next product.
Clients and Staff to Prepare Menus

The preparation of wholesome meals is not only critical to our physical health; the whole process of purchasing fresh ingredients and preparing food, in community, can benefit us in a multitude of ways. The Cedars is proud to announce the arrival of a new team member, Mark Spilsbury, who will assist both staff and residents on the Ross campus to procure fresh food from local sources, plan nutritious menus, and prepare appetizing meals.
Food Service continued in next column

Jim Wooster, owner of Alarm Financial Services in Corte Madera, had been hoping to outsource the mailing of his company invoices when he ran into some Cedars' clients at a local IHOP. As the parent of a young daughter with Down Syndrome, he was drawn into a conversation and before long had found reliable workers ready and willing to take on the job.
Since the fall of 2007, clients at Cedars' Community Challenges program have been stuffing envelopes for Alarm Financial Services each month, insuring that each address is clearly visible in the envelope window.
This partnership between Cedars and a local business is a perfect example of how we can join forces with our neighbors and provide a win-win for all concerned.

Food Service continued
"Marin County provides an extraordinary bounty of fresh foods in every season", said Spilsbury, an experienced caterer and food service manager. "I look forward to shopping at the Farmers' Market with interested residents and staff members and then returning to our state-of-the-art kitchen to create delicious nutritious meals."
Sharri McNeal, Ross Campus Manager, is thrilled that a nutritionist is joining the team to manage food services. "I know that the residents will enjoy selecting their menu items and helping to prepare their own meals, especially when they learn which foods are best for them."
Once the Ross Campus food services program is successfully up and running, nutritional consulting and menu options will be expanded to include all Cedars' community-based homes throughout the county.

“Cedars is a hidden gem in this world. Since my mother has placed Jimmy into this wonderful community, she feels a sense of security for her son for the rest of his life. The Cedars family can be counted as the best of the best when it comes to their compassion for their mission. You are like a fine wine getting even better with age!”

“Teaching Charlie how to weave when I don’t even know how to operate a loom myself, helped teach me patience, understanding and simple love. I learned so much from the clients at The Cedars.”

The Cedars of Marin does not discriminate on the basis of disability status in the
admission or access to, or treatment or employment in, its federally assisted programs and activities.
The person named below has been designated to coordinate compliance with the nondiscrimination requirements contained in the
Department of Housing and Urban Development’s regulations implementing Section 504 (24 CFR, part 8, dated June 2, 1988).
