A small Village with the will to stay that way...
A major attraction is that there can never be any more development, except building on existing lots, thus creating exclusivity. This will always keep the area from growing into the "giant resorts" that so many other mountain communities have become.
The Camp Nelson/Pierpoint Springs elevation is about 4,800 feet, where snow is frequent in winter months. All roads are well maintained year-round. Temperatures seldom exceed 90 (F) in the Summer and seldom drops below 20 in the Winter. A favorite escape from the Valley heat, swim and play in the cool Tule river.
The community of Camp Nelson is located 45 minutes east of Porterville, California on Highway 190, in eastern Tulare County. The community was established in 1886 and has operated continually since that time as a destination resort. It is now incorporated into the new Giant Sequoia National Monument and will benefit from federal promotional budgets.
Camp Nelson and adjacent villages have 1,723 parcels of land, 900+ homes and 300+ permanent residents. 500 of those homes and 180 residents are in Camp Nelson itself. At any given time, the population may be 3 - 5,000 because of vacation home and campground use. There are four local campgrounds. The area's aesthetics and enormous and popular trail system keep campgrounds well used in summer months.
