Gallery 10 is proud to present local artist and member Ted Smith as Novembers featured artist of the month.
Ted has taken a new direction and is trying out shapes and patterns seen in nature in paintings using frank abstract forms. He paints He paints with both watercolor and oil and a color palette of brighter and bolder hues painted with palette knife and brush. Ted feels this new way of painting provides an opportunity for greater self-expression.

Ted grew up in the beautiful Monterey, California environment and feels he paints because "it's in his genes." His Hungarian grandfather, an accomplished painter, influenced his grandson to begin painting the scenes of the Monterey peninsula.

Ted taught art for 10 years at California High School in the San Ramon School District and upon retirement in 1995, moved to Amador County and began to study with painter Howard Rees. He has participated in workshops with Barbara Neches, Lynn Slade and Jeannie Vodden. Several of his paintings hang in the clubhouse at Castle Oaks Golf Course, at Gallery 10 and in the community as part of the Art in Public Spaces Program.

Ted usually works on 3 to 4 paintings at a time in between the picture framing he does for his customers and the golf he loves to play. He does collage, and his recent experimenting with abstract images has enlivened his work. Facing a blank canvas "is always a challenge" and finishing a painting that satisfies him emotionally is a "win" for Ted.

A public reception to meet the artists and experience the joy of their creations will be held on Saturday, October 2 from 2 to 4 pm.The event will be catered by Susans Place. For more information, call the gallery at 209/267-0203 .
