We at Berkeley Ballet Theater foster excellence in our students by providing a rigorous, nurturing and diverse environment in which they receive professional classical ballet training and performance opportunities.

We believe that the joy of dance, with all its physical, mental, and aesthetic benefits, should be available to everyone. Whatever a student's goal, we believe it is best achieved in a well-disciplined but positive and loving environment.
Our school emphasizes a pure classical style, and encourages students to develop technique in a manner that is safe for their particular body. There are no height or weight requirements and all body types are welcome.
As performance is a valuable part of a dancer's education, we provide opportunities for all students to participate in stage productions.
Many of our faculty have enjoyed successful careers as professional dancers in major companies. Our instructors are among the finest available in the Bay Area and include teachers of international renown.
Whether a student chooses a dance career or not, the components of dance training and learning to perform offer invaluable experience, discipline, and confidence that carry over into all areas of life. Less▲

The Nutcracker - December 10-12 and 17-19 - Tickets on sale
Performances are Fridays at 7:00 pm, Saturdays at 2:00 pm and 7:00 pm, and Sundays at 2:00 pm. The Sugarplum Party, for children ages 2-17, follows each Saturday matinee performance. Children must attend the matinee performance, accompanied by a paying adult.
Tickets may be purchased at BBT on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 4:00 to 7:00 pm, and Saturdays 12:15 to 5:00 pm. More info

ODC's KT Nelson to Choreograph for BBT Modern 2 Dancers
BBT's Modern 2 dancers will have the privilege next year of working with beloved Bay Area choreographer KT Nelson. Ms. Nelson will choreograph a piece early in 2011, for performance at BBT's Spring Show.
KT is a longtime friend of BBT, where she studied with Sally Streets for many years. Ms. Nelson is Co-Artistic Director of San Francisco's ODC. She has choreographed more than 54 works including the full-length The Velveteen Rabbit, a holiday family favorite. She has been awarded the Isadora Duncan award (San Franciscos highest dance honor) three times. She founded ODCs youth company, the ODC Dance Jam, and presently co-directs the Jam (ages 12-17) with ODC School Director Kimi Okada.

If you do not know which level your student should join, please contact BBT Principal Deborah Moss at 843-4687 ext. 112 or Artistic Director Ilona McHugh at ext. 111 (enrollment in We Dance Together, Pre-ballet, and Primary is by the student's age).

Except for workshops, enroll in only one class.

Beginning pointe. These half-hour classes are free of charge when taken with the preceding Technique class. Tuesday and Friday 9:00-9:30 pm with Marika Brussel.

The Spring performances were recorded by professional videographer Gerry Blalock. Children's Division Sleeping Beauty DVDs are $26 each; Adult Division Collage DVDs are $25. (Sorry, the Pre-ballet show is not available.) Order form.
