Diving is in in full swing at SLOOC. Time to get out your gear and start diving. Plenty of activities coming your way.
Sunday October 17th Butterfly House Santa Barbara. A nice old pier setting with submerged piles and pipes. Depths range from very shallow to 30 plus feet. Typically vis can be 11-20 feet with better vis up to 30 feet. Water temp should be 62-64 degrees. One arranged dive is scheduled and another on your own with a buddy can be done if you like.
Spectre Boat Trip- October 9th- Its a day night trip with three day dives and one night dive. Sleep in you own bed and drive down to catch the boat. Do all four or if night diving is not your thing, check out the stars from the hot tub.
October 10th is yet another day of diving. A four dive day to Anacapa and Santa Cruz Island. Just in time for good conditons and lobster grabbing if you choose. Water temperature at Anacapa right now is 66 degrees and up to forty feet of visibilty. Quite a few Black Seabass have been sighted so lets get wet!

Common Spectre trips are as follows
Anacapa Island- is located approximately 14 miles south of Ventura, California. Anacapa consists of 3 smaller islets, East, Middle, and West Anacapa Islands totaling approximately 1 square mile of land and approximately 5 miles in length. Located only a little over one hour from Ventura Harbor this makes for a great short ride to spectacular diving. Anacapa Island boast some of the clearest waters found in the Northern island chain. The highlights of Anacapa include the sea lion rookery the return of the Giant Black Seabass and the incredible kelp forrest. Anacapa is no longer know for game collecting so its primarily a great photo and sightseeing destination.
Santa Cruz- Island is the largest and most topographically diverse of the eight Channel Islands. Santa Cruz Island is approximately 24 miles in length and encompasses 77 miles of pristine coastline. Located just 2 hours from either Ventura or Santa Barbara harbor you will find that this is the most diverse diving islands of the the eight Channel Islands. The front side is riddled with volcanic caves both above and below and offers the scallop gathers a good chance of filling a bag of booty. The backside is a gentle sloping islands that has many large kelp beds and offshore rock formations. This island has something for everyone and is still in what would be considered the warmer water zone.

Emergency First Responder October 21th 6:00 P.M.- First aid and CPR are good skills for anyone involved in adventure sports – just in case. And, you need these skills for the PADI Rescue Diver course. EFR is a PADI affiliate that specializes in teaching these lifesaving skills – and they’re for anyone, not just divers
Rescue Diver- Starts October 26th- Challenging” and “rewarding” best describe the PADI Rescue Diver course. Building upon what you’ve already learned, this course expands on what you already know about how to prevent problems, and how to manage them if they occur. The fun part about this course is rising to challenges and mastering them. Most divers find this course both demanding and rewarding, and at the end, say it’s the best course they’ve ever taken.
Adventure Dives- October 23rd- Ready to dive into some additional training. How about the Navagation Dive or the Search and Recovery dive. Both options will have you getting comfotable with your compass, and who knows you jsut might find something while you are at it.
