Explore Aikido With Us

Great news! We're in the paper! The San Francisco Chronicle Datebook included a wonderful article about Aikido and our dojo written by Kenneth Baker, a member of our dojo for many years. Read the article and share the link with others.
The Guiding Principle of Aikido is Harmony
Aikido is a modern martial art founded in the last century by Morihei Ueshiba O-Sensei. It is non-violent and strives to achieve harmony with nature, others, and oneself. The word Aikido consists of three Japanese words that can be translated as path to spiritual harmony."

Rather than fighting, Aikido challenges us to meet the energy of an attack with relaxation and a sense of center. Using fluid, spiral movements, we turn around an attackers energy so that it defeats itself.
Aikido Offers Many Benefits

People who begin training in the martial art Aikido find many benefits:

Aikido is a discipline for mental, physical, and spiritual growth. At Heart of San Francisco Aikido, we train as a community of people who practice peace.
"Foster peace in your own life and then apply the Art to all that you encounter." ~ Morihei Ueshiba O'Sensei
