The Guiding Principle of Aikido is Harmony
Aikido is a modern martial art founded in the last century by Morihei Ueshiba O-Sensei. It is non-violent and strives to achieve harmony with nature, others, and oneself. The word Aikido consists of three Japanese words that can be translated as path to spiritual harmony."
Rather than fighting, Aikido challenges us to meet the energy of an attack with relaxation and a sense of center. Using fluid, spiral movements, we turn around an attackers energy so that it defeats itself.

Heart of San Francisco Aikido Dojo opened in January 1995. We offer beginner's classes, general classes, seminars, and special events for women, men, and youth.

Heart of San Francisco Aikido offers a 6 week introductory course which meets twice a week, 12 classes in all. It is designed for people interested in experiencing the art of Aikido for the first time, as well as for those who wish to re-enter Aikido practice after some time away.
