Harvey Clar started his auction career at the age of 18 working for his father at the Sam Clar Company. His first auction consisted of selling appliances. After 3 years with Sam Clar Company he teamed with Irwin Friedman in San Francisco to form Clar & Friedman Auctioneers. They worked together for the next 20 years handling large Industrial Auctions such as the Chevrolet Assembly plant in Oakland, Larrabaru Bakery, Garwood Industries trucking plant in Richmond, plus many others.
In 1972 he went on his own and with his wife Donna founded Harvey Clar's Estate Auction Gallery. In its first year sales totaled $225,000. When they sold the Gallery in 1994 annual sales topped $5 million.
All through those years the company continued with its industrial sales. Handling auctions for Frontier Village Amusement Park in San Jose, Scott Company in Oakland, San Leandro, Los Angeles and Lathrop, Walker Mechanical Contractors in Sacramento, Dillingham Construction of Napa, San Carlos Sheet Metal and many more.
At that time Harvey forged a relationship with Ford Motor Company that has lasted 35 years, doing hundreds of agency auctions and appraisals. Harvey has also worked with General Motors, Chrysler Corporation , US Bankruptcy Court, Small Business Administration and many others. A list of dealership auctions would include Lew Doty Cadillac, Billings Chevrolet, Shen Lincoln / Mercury, Chevrolet and Mitsubishi, Swanson Ford, University Ford, Price Ford In Denver, Downey Lincoln / Mercury just to name a few.
Daniel Clar has worked with his father since he was twelve. Now at the age of forty five he has joined the Corporation as a partner. The father & son combination is enthusiastic in its advertising, sale set up and auctioneering. The bottom line of each auction proves it.
