I'm San Francisco employment law attorney Stephen M. Murphy. I represent people when this relationship has gone wrong. Typically, this is one of the worst times in my clients' lives: They have lost their jobs, experienced discrimination or have been harassed at work. They come to me to try to right that wrong.
If your employer has illegally terminated you or denied your legal rights in the workplace, you can seek compensation for past and future lost income, emotional distress and punitive damages. If your employer takes the case to court and loses, they will also have to pay your attorney's statutory fees.

Most employment law cases do settle for a sum of money, but they only settle when the employer knows that you and your lawyer are ready to take the case to trial in front of a jury.
Contingency Fee Representation
When people come to me, they typically can't afford to pay hourly attorney fees. Therefore, I do all of my work on a contingency fee basis. This means that if I lose the case, I don't get paid. As a result, I need to be careful about what cases I take on. To be successful, I have to win.
There are expenses in any legal case such as witness fees, filing fees and deposition fees. I front all those costs. At end of the case, if I win, these expenses will be reimbursed from the settlement or jury award.
