Before you hire ANYONE, even if you have used them before, you should go to the California State License Board website and check the status of their license! Some companies will go through 4 or 5 licenses, it's amazing.

Exactly What Makes Us Better?
When it comes to repairing your roof, NO ONE can touch Ron William's "Roof Doctor". We repair lots of Shake roofs, we recently got called out to do repairs on a shake roof that had just been "repaired" the previous year. When we arrived it was obvious why the repairs had failed. Below left are the "shims" the Contractor had used.
To save money and time, they take regular shims and split them into little slivers. Then because they are so small, as soon as the shims dry a little they shrink and fall out. To an experienced roofer, these shims are a joke, and these consumers were ripped off. Below right are our minimum width shims. These two were sold as the same thing, but as you can see it's not even close.
If you have had your shake roof repaired, do yourself a favor and check the size of the shims used. Its easy, mathematically it is impossible to have 1-1/2" coverage on both sides if the shim is less than 3" wide.

Unfortunately for consumers, roof repair work is sorely lacking in regulatory standards and consumers are left at the mercy of the repair person's ethics and experience.
We have found that there are repair personnel that represent themselves as experienced, without even being aware of basic Roofing Industry Standards and have no or very limited experience in actual roof installation.

A good example would be the shims in the picture above left. They are too small to comply with minimum coverage requirements set forth by The Cedar Shake and Shingle Bureau. (See line 4 - Shakes shall be laid with a side lap of not less than 1 1/2" between joints in adjacent courses). This is a fundamental practice, known by all experienced and ethical roofers.

Having served as a roof installer, roofing Contractor, a roofing technical consultant, an expert witness and quality control manager for several large firms, Ron Williams is a uniquely qualified roof inspector, and he will personally do your inspection. In addition, because of our high level of competence at repair work, we are often able to certify roofs that others won't, and we can work on flat roofs too.
