"Cut grades" given in current gemological laboratory reports are not particularly helpful for selecting a beautiful diamond. A diamond's brightness is mostly determined by its geometry. Other characteristics such as color, clarity and polish have far less influence on the fraction of light that is returned to the viewer's eyes. For comparing the potential brightness of diamonds sight-unseen, their geometry may be rated by our sophisticated calculation based on their actual dimensions and weight. We call this result an e-Praise Cut Score (eCS). Stones with the range of measurements that score eCS=1.000 are exceptionally brilliant. Any lesser score indicates that the diamond was poorly cut, regardless of any lab's "cut grade".
