HOUSING ELEMENT DONE! The City has received our final approval letter from HCD stating that the City of Eureka's Housing Element is in FULL compliance with State Housing Element law. The letter goes on to state that the City of Eureka now meets specific requirements for several State funding programs designed to reward local governments for compliance with State Housing Element law.

Thank you to all who contributed to the Housing Element, with special thanks to Robert Wall, AICP, Senior Planner, who prepared the document and carried it through to success.

REQUEST FOR QUALIFICATIONS MEDICAL CANNABIS FACILITY The City of Eureka is circulating a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) inviting submittal of a business plan and qualifications from persons, collectives or cooperatives interested in establishing a medical cannabis facility within the City of Eureka. The Eureka City Council has adopted a Medical Cannabis Ordinance that limits the total number of medical cannabis facilities allowed within the city to six. Four of the facilities would be permitted to cultivate and process medical cannabis within the city, and then distribute that medical cannabis from a maximum of two locations within the city. Two of the facilities would be permitted to distribute medical cannabis not cultivated and processed within the city.

The purpose of the RFQ is to determine which person(s), collectives or cooperatives, based upon their business plan and qualifications will be invited to apply for permits necessary to operate a medical cannabis facility within the City. Only those persons, collectives or cooperatives who are invited may submit permit applications.

The deadline for the city to RECEIVE all RFQ submittals is 5:00 p.m. on Friday December 3, 2010.

A workshop to answer questions and explain the selection process will be held on November 4, 2010, at 6:30 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chamber, 531 K Street, Eureka CA.
