The Detective Company is operated by Gary W. Hoffman, a California licensed private investigator specializing in corporate, insurance recovery, real estate and environmental investigations. Prior to starting The Detective Company, Mr. Hoffman was for fifteen years a senior investigator with three national investigation companies. The recent investigations of Mr. Hoffman include:

Mr. Hoffman undertook a nationwide search for the United States based assets of a large foreign national oil company. The search encompassed real property, shipping, vehicles, pipeline rights, joint ventures and intellectual property.

A large residential mortgage lender commissioned Mr. Hoffman to undertake background and asset search investigations on selected independent mortgage brokers in preparation for civil litigation.

For an international manufacturer of power tools, Mr. Hoffman assisted in the investigation of a salesman abusing its sales incentives, with the investigation encompassing a background and asset search of the salesman, field interviews of his major accounts and court testimony.

For profit and non-profit corporations, Mr. Hoffman identified historic general liability insurance coverage to answer environmental and other historic claims. The investigation included review of internal corporate documents to identify past coverage and the identification, location and interview of former risk managers and insurance brokers concerning their knowledge of historic policies. In one action, the claimant recovered in excess of $1 billion.

Mr. Hoffman is a graduate of Loyola Marymount University and has done graduate work at the same university. His is also an Associate Member of The Association of Certified Fraud Examiners and a licensed California private investigator.
