Summer 2010 is here!
Welcome to another season of hometown hospitality when Nevada County comes together to celebrate our Sierra Foothill lifestyle at popular events throughout the downtown. This year, Downtown Grass Valley will presents a three month series of healthy and entertaining events and continuing through Labor Day Weekend, beginning Sunday, May 30, with the Sierra Festival of the Arts.
The Mill Street Certified Farmers Market begins shortly after that on June 3 and continues all summer thru September 2. The Thursday Night Marketplace and Grass Valley's Free Thursday Night Concert Series begins on July 1 and also continues thru September 2, The event takes place on Main and Auburn Streets. More than 200 vendors, artists, farmers, crafters, restaurants and shops will participate this year, making this event the largest weekly street festival in the Sierra. The selections of products and services available reflect our valued foothill lifestyle.
Shoppers and browsers in our corner of the Sierra Foothills know that the tasteful collections and selections found at our restaurants and retail shops are unique, interesting and are always changing and affordable. Shop keepers are friendly and helpful. Every summer, thousands of browsers wind their way through the art, craft and farm fresh produce; choose their ‘flavor of the day’; and enjoy festival food or sit down at a street cafe. One of the market’s most popular activities is sitting at a table under the historic skyline watching your neighborhood pass by.
Downtown wineries will offer open house wine tasting and hospitality and, of course, the tasteful and unique shops of downtown Grass Valley will remain open to browse and enjoy. Several street cafes are planned and a food court with a wide variety of tastes, including international foods and more.
The Grass Valley Thursday Night Marketplace and the Mill Street Certified Farmers Market are licensed as a Certified California Farmers Markets, so you will always find farm fresh produce, flowers and plants. The Thursday Night Marketplace is an event for the whole family (leave fido at home, it’s not just a good idea, it’s the law). There is a safe area and entertainment for children and plenty of activities for adults. Wear your walking (or dancing) shoes and bring your summer smile or the Thursday Night Market will provide one for you! This free event is presented by Grizzly Hill Productions exclusively for the Grass Valley Downtown Association, and, this year with the help and support of the Grass Valley Union Newspaper. The theme of this event has always been: “To bring the community together in downtown Grass Valley.” Getting to know our neighbors and community is a reassuring pastime.
