The WORLD CHAMPION San Francisco Giants
Stand up, grab some body and scream "HELL YEAH" - the San Francisco Giants are WORLD CHAMPIONS. I'm a San Francisco native and a life long fan that grew up taking MUNI to Candlestick Park. It's hard to believe that they've finally won it all. This year the team brought together a bunch of great low-profile ball players. There were no egos and no BS - just baseball. While it was fun watching the B.BONDS home-run show over the years, I believe the time, energy and money that went into that train - may have been what was holding them back from working together and playing like the team that we watched this year. Congrat's to all Giants baseball players, including the greats that made the moments over the years. See you at the parade tommorrow...
The Giants' victory parade will start at 11 a.m. on wednesday @ Montgomery and Washington streets and go southbound on Montgomery to Market Street before continuing west on Market to Civic Center Plaza. After the parade, Mayor Gavin Newsom will present the team with the key to the city on the steps of City Hall. The parade will replicate the route taken by the team when they came to San Francisco from New York in 1958.
Today we honored "Arnie"...Los Angeles County Fire Fighter Specialist Arnaldo "Arnie" Quinones, 34, was killed in the line of duty on Sunday, August 30, 2009 during the Station Fire. His emergency response vehicle went over the side of the road and fell 800 feet into a steep canyon during fire suppression activities protecting Camp 16 outside the City of Palmdale, CA. He is survived by his wife Lori and daughter Sophia Grace, born three weeks after his death.
AARON working hard - one of few that handled the 1.5 pood.
The athlete you see below is demonstrating the - deload - at the bottom of a hand release - push-up. Her attention to mechanics and a notable increase in performance over the past few months have made BRIANNE our "Student Athlete of the Week." She is really starting to stand out on the white board, posting times that are challenging the rest of our male and female athletes. Keep it up BRIANNE, we're thrilled to have your enthusiasm and energy!
Preventive exercise with Dr. Dan Lord…
Not many doctors will tell you to Squat, Press or DEADLIFT as a means of preventing and/or rehabing injuries. Well... ours does and it's the main reason we've chosen Dr. Daniel Lord as our go-to guy for TEAM LALANNE and every student in our program. Dr. Lord is an experienced CrossFitter who's preparing for the 2011 CrossFit Games NorCal Sectionals. He understands the value of training with functional movements - for his patients and for himself. Check out this VIDEO of a Rock Tape application - just one of the many modalities he uses to keep our athletes "in the game." A BIG SHOUT-OUT to Dan from all of us here at the Brickhouse... THANKS DOC!
CrossFit and me… a one year journey!
"It's been about a year now, since I first stepped inside the doors of 590 Howard St to do the baseline workout with Chris, and I felt like recapping. Thinking a bit about what working out at LaLanne Fitness has meant to me over the past twelve months...
What I like about working out at LaLanne Fitness is; that it feels like a community. I might have picked that word because of the note on one of the walls "Building a community one Crossfitter at a time." But to me this is more than just words on a piece of paper. At LLF it is actually true. I doubt anyone working out twice a week at a regular gym would get the same positive feeling of encouragement as I do when I set my foot in the box." -Soren
Soren (above) - survived the "Death By Barbell Challenge."
Notes: For rotational box jumps, start by facing the box, jump and rotate to the right 90 degrees landing on the box. Step down and jump again, this time rotating 90 degrees to the left landing on the box. One jump to the right and one to the left counts as one rep. Start and land in a good athletic position.
