I guess there's no reason not to tell this story now that the confidentiality of the patient is no longer an issue. My dad died a few months ago at 94. Dr. Cava, Gloria Turkel, and Dr. Jackie Miodownik- Aisenberg gave him care and comfort through his last days. But it was ten years ago, when my dad was 84 that I thought he was coming to the end of his life. He had a serious health concern. He was a "quart low;" anemic, mildly cognitively impaired with a host of concomitant issues. My dad had been to six specialists. He had paid over $100,000 in insurance reimbursements. No one could figure out what was wrong with him. He was taking any number of medications prescribed by the various doctors in their distinguished silos. It looked like he had only a few months left.
