GT is a San Francisco Church

– Making Intentional Steps Forward?

Glad Tidings Church is a San Francisco Church. We have been here for almost 100 years! We are not going anywhere. But we’re NOT stuck in our past; we use it to be a resource to move forward in 2010. For a while GT had difficult days, then about 10 years ago we began to grow and change. This growth has brought a lot of forward momentum on many levels.
When we say “forward movement” we mean that we are:

Intentionally multicultural: Asian, Latin, Black, White, and Pacific Islander… We welcome authentic diversity and refuse to make GT a monochromatic expression of following Christ
Intentionally outward facing: we want to make a difference in San Francisco and around the world. This compels us to reach out and give resources and time to accountable organizations that feed hungry people, fund drug rehabilitation programs, build orphanages, help schools, and …
Intentionally tolerant: We honestly confess that walking out the principle of tolerance is challenging — we want this and are committed to make it real at GT.
Intentionally patient: GOD is patient with us, so we do everything we can to let everyone grow at his or her own pace.
Intentionally passionate: considering how great GOD is we cannot help but sing with passion, pray with conviction, and live with purpose.
Intentionally inclusive: No matter what! We are convinced that the arms of JESUS are open wide to everyone.

At GT we reject cookie-cutter conformity. This includes the way we dress, the political stances we hold, or how our faith is lived out. We do not emphasize rules and regulations. Our target is love. Loving God. Loving each other. Love is our motivation to be a community that is multicultural, socio-economically diverse, and accepting. This does not mean we are perfect — we’re not. But our goal is to love GOD, and make Gods love known in the way we live our lives–even though we are “a work in process.”
So what’s all that look like — really? GTs a place where people with PhDs and those without a high school diploma sit side by side. GTs a place where one person might like to sing loudly and lift their hands up, and the person right next to them might not like to sing at all and remains seated with his/her hands in their lap. GT’s a place where it’s okay to stand up to say, “amen!” during a song or message, but it’s just as okay to prefer sitting quietly and write down an interesting point or thought. It doesn’t matter that you might look different than someone else, express yourself differently than someone else, or drive a different car than someone else [or not have a car at all]. Bottom line: we reject the paradigm this isharsh, judgmental, or negative.

If you’re looking for a place that’s moving forward but has a rich legacy, join us at GT.
If you’re looking for a place where people are convinced that GOD can do anything, join us at GT.
If you’re an open-hearted seeker of truth or returning to faith you once had, join us a GT.
If you’re just curious about what a friendly, forward moving church looks like, join us at GT.
If you want to be challenged to build your faith, join us at GT

Come and take some forward steps with us. You’re welcome just the way you are!
